Maneeza Hossain

Senior Fellow
Hudson Institute, Washington, D.C. Headquarters

Biographical Highlights

Maneeza Hossain joined the Hudson Institute as a Senior Fellow in July 2006. Her work at Hudson focuses on policy considerations of the impact of the relationship of Islam and democracy in Bangladesh. Prior to joining Hudson, Ms. Hossain was a Fellow at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies (FDD), where she was also the Manager of Democracy Programs. At FDD she edited the Iraq Democracy Papers, a collection of readers of annotated articles and commentaries widely distributed in post-Saddam Hussein Iraq. She also managed the operations of Iraq Democracy Information Center and was the project coordinator for the Iraqi Women's Educational Institute (IWEI).

Ms. Hossain participated in a number of events and conferences focusing on South Asia. As part of her focus, Ms. Hossain periodically visits the region and follows its political developments. Her article, “The World Cannot Afford to Ignore Bangladesh” in the Asian Wall Street Journal in August 2005 was a clarion call against the world apathy towards the rise of terrorist activity in Bangladesh.

Born and raised in Bangladesh, Ms. Hossain received a Bachelor's degree in Foreign Affairs and Middle Eastern Studies in 1999 from the University of Virginia and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Virginia School Law in 2004. Ms. Hossain speaks fluent Bangla.
