Walter Stern is associated with Capital Group Companies, Inc., a large investment management firm. He is Vice Chairman and a Director of Capital International, Inc. He also serves as Chairman Emeritus of the New Perspective Fund and the Emerging Markets Growth Fund, both global funds. Additionally, Stern has responsibilities for following financial and political developments in New York and worldwide.
Prior to joining Capital in 1973, Stern was a Senior Executive Vice President and Director of Drexel Burnham & Co. in New York, where he was responsible for research, institutional sales and investment management.
Stern received a bachelors degree (Phi Beta Kappa) from Williams College and an MBA, with distinction, from Harvard University. A Chartered Financial Analyst, he is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a Director and Advisory Board member of the The American Committee on Foreign Relations, a member of the Board of Visitors of the Monterey Institute and a member of the CFA Center Advisory Council. He is a past Chairman of the Institute for Chartered Financial Analysts and the Financial Analysts Federation; he recently retired from the Board of Temple-Inland, Inc.
Stern is Chairman Emeritus of Hudson Institute and Vice President of The Washington Institute for Near East Policy. He serves on a number of other charitable and public policy boards.
